Modeling Days and Entry Into Acting
After completing his college engineering studies, Rishabh decided to follow his inner artistic passion. He did not take up a regular engineering desk job. Instead, he entered the glamour world of fashion modeling. He walked on fashion ramps for many popular designers and brands. His tall physical height, strong body, and good looks helped him gain quick attention in the modeling industry. But Rishabh knew that modeling was just the first step for him. He really wanted to become an actor. So around 2019, he started doing theatre plays at the famous Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai. Theatre work helped him learn basic acting skills, stage confidence, and dialogue voice control.
Learning Behind the Camera
Rishabh was very smart in his career approach. He wanted to understand how the entire film making system works before coming in front of the big camera. Because of this, he joined the casting team division under famous director Nikkhil Advani. Rishabh worked as a casting assistant for big shows like The Empire, Kaun Banegi Shikharwati, and Bestseller. Working behind the scenes was a great practical lesson for him. He watched hundreds of actors giving auditions every single day. He learned what mistakes actors make and what director demands. During this period, he got his first small acting chance in the historical web series The Empire in 2021 on Disney+ Hotstar. He played the character of Mehmood, who was the brother of king Babur. Senior legend actress Shabana Azmi helped him prepare for his role. This gave him great confidence.
The Big Break with Fighter
Destiny had something huge planned for Rishabh Sawhney. One day, he got a call to audition for director Siddharth Anand's big action film Fighter. The director was searching for a fresh face who looked dangerous, tall, and powerful enough to face Hrithik Roshan. Rishabh gave his full power in the audition. He was selected to play the main villain named Azhar Akhtar. To prepare for this heavy role, Rishabh worked very hard on his physical body. He went through strict gym workout routines every day. He built a muscular physique. He also took special voice training to speak with a scary and deep tone.
When Fighter hit cinema screens in January 2024, the movie became a massive box office hit. Audience and famous critics were shocked to see this new actor. His terrifying eyes, brutal machine gun scenes, and intense hand-to-hand combat against Hrithik Roshan earned him massive praise. Overnight, Rishabh Sawhney became a household name across India. People were searching for his name on Google to know who this villain was. He won several prestigious honors, including the Lions Gold Award and Mid Day Showbiz Award in 2024.
Breaking the Image and Choosing Diverse Roles
Many young actors stick to one type of negative role after getting famous as a villain. But Rishabh wanted to show his full acting range. He explicitly stated that he did not want to get stuck playing only terror roles or dark negative characters. Therefore, in 2025, he signed an artistic film titled Echoes of Valour, directed by Indira Dhar. In this emotional story, he played the gentle character of a school teacher alongside veteran actors Divya Dutta and Neeraj Kabi. The movie was screened at the international Venice International Film Festival, bringing him high critical respect as a deep actor.
New Horizons and Big Pan-India Movies
In 2026, Rishabh took another huge step in his rising career. He entered the big Telugu cinema world with the Pan-India action film Nagabandham: The Secret Treasure. For this grand project, Rishabh trained in sword fighting for almost a full year. He also spent months learning the historical Pashto language to bring complete realism to his character. He believes in giving total honesty to every single frame he shoots. His dual presence in the project gathered immense media praise.
Business Mind and Personal Life
