The action-thriller movie Gandhari, starring Taapsee Pannu, officially released worldwide on Netflix on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Movie lovers were waiting for this film for a long time. People wanted to see Taapsee Pannu in a strong action role again. The movie promises high-voltage drama, emotional scenes, and intense fighting. It tries to show how far a mother can go to protect her child. Here is a complete review of the film in simple words.

The Main Story of the Movie

The story of the movie centers on a brave mother named Bani, played by Taapsee Pannu. She lives a normal life with her husband Gokul and their cute little daughter Mishty. One fine day, the family travels together and passes through a small town called Joypurra. Things take a scary turn at a busy railway station when local criminals kidnap Mishty.

Bani runs as fast as she can to save her child. During this crazy chase, Bani suffers a terrible head injury. This accident causes her to lose her vision temporarily. Even though she cannot see clearly, her heart gives her power. The local police officers do not take the kidnapping seriously at first. Bani decides she will not sit quiet and cry. She chooses to fight the evil child-trafficking gang herself to bring her daughter back home.

Acting and Character Performances

Taapsee Pannu is the biggest highlight of this movie. She delivers a raw, painful, and powerful performance. In every scene, you can feel her pain as a mother. When she cries, you feel sad. When she hits the bad guys, you want to clap for her. Fighting while showing physical weakness is very hard. Taapsee makes it look real and believable.

Ishwak Singh plays the role of the helpless husband Gokul. He acts very well in emotional moments, but his role feels short. Jatin Sarna plays Kabir, an honest officer who comes to investigate the child kidnapping cases. He brings good energy to the screen. Mita Vashisht plays a key role as Jhunu Amba, a strong woman who helps Bani train and stand strong against the gang. Little Myrah Shivan plays the daughter Mishty and looks very sweet on screen.

Direction and Writing

The film is directed by Devashish Makhija and written by popular writer Kanika Dhillon. The concept of a blind mother fighting brutal criminals is very dramatic. Kanika Dhillon adds deep motherly feelings to the action scenes.

However, the screenplay tries to handle too many things at once. It covers child trafficking, physical disability, revenge, and mystery. Because of so many subplots, the main story sometimes loses speed. Some scenes feel slow and repeated. But whenever the film focuses directly on Bani's struggle, the direct energy comes right back.

Action, Music, and Technical Work

The action sequences in Gandhari are not unreal or superhero-style. They are raw, messy, and grounded. Bani struggles, gets hit, gets hurt, and bleeds. This realistic action makes you care for her safety even more.

The camera work uses dark, realistic lighting to show the scary underworld of child traffickers. The background music adds good tension to the fast-paced scenes. The audio team used sounds very cleverly so viewers can understand how a visually impaired person hears surroundings.

Strengths of the Film

  • Taapsee Pannu delivers a strong, memorable acting performance.

  • Realistic and grounded action sequences instead of fake stunts.

  • Strong emotional connection between mother and child.
  • A meaningful social message against child trafficking.

Weaknesses of the Film

  • The second half becomes predictable at times.
  • The story drags in a few middle scenes.
  • Some side characters did not get enough screen time.

Final Verdict

Gandhari is a decent emotional action thriller. It is not a flawless film, but it keeps you glued to your screen mainly because of Taapsee Pannu's dedicated performance. If you enjoy revenge dramas with real heart, you can stream it on Netflix this weekend.

Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.
